Year of the Tiger
Artwork by Cino Lai

Cino works as an artist with the Substance 3D team. In celebration of the Lunar New Year, he created this scene, littered with reference to his Chinese roots and his love of Substance.

"In China's Spring Festival, Lantern Festival and other festivals, as well as when celebrating newborn babies, people often make cloth tigers in various forms, which has the beautiful meaning of exorcising evil spirits, dispelling diseases and blessing."

And here's a nod to MAT, a funny little character which you can find as a 3D model in Substance 3D Painter.

All the renders were made with Substance 3D Stager, which gave Cino great flexibility to bring together the different elements of his scene.

Earlier this year, Cino sat with the Magazine team for a very technical breakdown of another scene of his, which you can find here.

Happy new year!
